WHY YOUR GIFT MATTERS

Because to this day

Mothers are dying needlessly in childbirth, girls are facing pain and mutilation before their first birthday, families are struggling with food insecurity, and children are being snatched into trafficking and exploitation.

Your donation helps change these stories by delivering urgent aid now and building long-term, locally led solutions.

HOW YOUR GIFT HELPS

Clean birthing kit

Something as simple as a clean birthing kit can literally mean the difference between safe birth and tragedy for expectant mothers living in remote parts of Ethiopia. Containing things like soap, gloves and clean cloths, these simple kits promote hygyiene, prevent infection, and help bring new lives safely into the world.

Trauma care centres provide specialised support to children and women who have experienced trafficking or abuse. They provide medical aid, counselling and legal aid, plus the basics to restore dignity, like clothing and toiletries. They help both in the 'now' and long term, helping women and children heal, start or resume schooling, and re-enter society.

Model of placenta being used to train Traditional Birth Attendants in Afar

In remote regions, a Traditional Birth Attendant may be a pregnant woman's ONLY source of care during pregnancy and childbirth. When trained, these attendants monitor the woman during pregnancy, check for signs of complications, deliver the baby safely, and protect both mother and child from harmful traditional practices like Female Genital Mutilation.

Woman being carried on a hand-held traditional stretcher

For some families, the nearest health centre may be anywhere between a one-day to 10-day walk. When complications arise, the chances are they won't be able to get help in time. That's why emergency referral networks are so important, ensuring even those  in the most isolated regions can access emergency medical care.
