Ethiopia Visit Report 2024

10 October 2024

An update on partners and projects

Every time I visit Ethiopia, I come away a changed person. Every time, I meet people who teach me so much about life, the values we hold, and the things we can easily take for granted when living in a country like Australia. I am also reminded of how resilient the people of Ethiopia are in the face of great hardship.

I always come away deeply inspired by the determination and commitment of the partners we work with. Their dedication to the men, women, children and communities of Ethiopia is awe-inspiring, and it is one of the great privileges of my life to be able to lead an organisation from Australia that enables their work.

During this visit, I was unable to travel to some regions due to the extended State of Emergency in the Amhara region and unrest elsewhere, but the meetings we did have were extremely valuable and conducive to strengthening relationships and sharing
knowledge. I was able to witness first-hand the effects of the staggering inflation that Ethiopia is enduring, and how it is impacting
upon our partners and their work.

On this field visit, I was joined by team members from our UK and Ireland offices, as well as donors from the UK, including some who took part in the Hawassa Half Marathon.

It is always a great joy to share with you the work that is being done in Ethiopia, and I hope you enjoy reading this update. If you would like any further information about our partners or projects, please do not hesitate to get in touch.
